Mining Industry Advisory Committee
MIAC
Established in the early 1990s, MIAC was formed to attract the best and brightest candidates into the University of Alberta’s Mining Engineering Program and to place them in work-term programs and permanent life-long careers. A cooperative effort between mining companies, equipment suppliers, consultants and University professors, MIAC meets on a regular basis to continue improving and supporting the program.
Since its initiation, MIAC’s strategy and mandate have expanded to include:
Development of curriculum and facilities that evolve to meet the needs of the industry
Industry involvement in faculty development and succession planning
Expanded marketing and outreach in schools
Improved leadership and coordination in the research and development of new technologies and capabilities
